June 20, 2017 - Walk a Mile in Our Shoes.....

4 IN A ROW!
That's a worse average than the Blue Jays!
It rained off and on all day Tuesday - even when the sun was shining and the sky was blue!

The hardest decision this executive has to make is when to cancel a cruise-in!

We have to consider many things - such as the condition of the parking area.  The cars are not parked on pavement or even on the parking lot.  If it has rained all day, the grass is wet and car tires can make a rut - not fair to the church to ruin their grassy area.

We need to consider the church volunteers who may have thawed meat that cannot be refrozen if there is no one there to purchase the food.

We have to consider the disc jockey who drives to Port Perry with his sound equipment.  He is entitled to be paid and we have no way to recover the expense.

We need to consider our volunteer member hosts, many of whom live out of town.

Consequently, a decision has to be made at an early enough time frame to notify everyone.  The past two weeks it has been raining when we made the "call" and yet by 5 o'clock the sun was shining!!!
Who knew?!?!?!

To those of you who DID know and showed up expecting a cruise-in, we thank you for your dedication and loyalty.

As of right now - it looks like a sunny day is forecast for next week!
Fingers crossed!!

PAPER DRIVE FOR OPERATION SCUGOG WILL BE HELD AT THE NEXT CRUISE-IN...
...HOPEFULLY JUNE 27TH!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

It was great having our "non-snowbird" members getting together to celebrate the Christmas season!

Special thanks to Brenda and Paul for making all the arrangements.

It was Charlie and Julie's 40th Anniversary that day - what a great bunch to celebrate with!
......even if no one knew until the end of the party!  :)

SANTA BABY - WILL YOU HURRAY DOWN THE CHIMNEY TONIGHT?!?!?!

and finally.....

Merry Christmas everyone!
Have a safe and healthy new year!

Green is THE colour this year!

At precisely 9:17 sharp on Saturday September 24th we began this year's Fall Colour (green) Cruise.  Under the leadership of Andy and Bev we followed them north with Dave and Cathy bringing up the rear!

We turned right, then left - went east, then south, saw three trees that had changed colour and eventually stopped for a McDonald's (pee) break in Orillia.

We went up hills and down dales and along twisting roads until we arrived for lunch at Riverhouse Restaurant in Severn Falls.

We showed those bikers! ..... :)

On the road again with our stomachs full and our bladders empty we headed on towards Port Severn stopping just past the swing bridge (for a pee break).

Off we go to the right, back over the 400, a jog to the right then, a quick left, a couple more right turns and voila!  We arrive at our destination for the night.....Best Western Highland Inn in Midland.

With three weddings and a group (that was us!) the inn was full!

Not much can be divulged as this is a G-rated blog but suffice to say we learned how Brenda cheats the "Fit Bit" and Paul loves every move!

Sleep (?) was interrupted with the sounds of the fire alarm.  Can't blame Reid this time!
Apparently no-smoking rules were meant to be broken - but someone in a wedding party may regret that decision if there are repercussions following the arrival of the fire truck!

Good thing it wasn't a real fire - many of our cruisers either didn't hear the alarm or ignored it!

Bright and early Sunday morning after a nice continental breakfast we headed out on an awesome drive - the only thing that might have made it more enjoyable would have been if the leaves had changed colours.

Our first quick (pee) break was at Lafontaine Beach!  Could have pulled out our chairs and stayed much longer!  What a lovely beach.

But we had to get going - would soon be time for lunch (and a pee break) at Mad Michael's Smokehouse in Wyebridge.

Again, with our stomachs full and our bladders empty we forged on stopping soon at our future home - Leacock Retirement Lodge in Orillia(pee break again!)

May we all be fortunate enough to afford the laps of luxury in a home such as this when we downsize!
It has a lovely bathroom with marble floors!   :)

With those thoughts, the following is a look into the future - 20 years from now.....

Finally, with our bladders emptied again, we headed for home through the Sunday traffic ending up at the Hyland Restaurant because, of course, we hadn't eaten for a couple of hours and some needed a pee break!

Many, many thanks to Bev and Andy for planning (yet again) a wonderful Fall Cruise - even if the dominant colour was green!

One word for next year.......depends!

This week.......we were sooooooo hot!

Car of the Week winner for 80's Night which had been rained out is:
1987 Monte Carlo SS owned by Steve Elliott from Little Britain

Two Times a Winner for him too!
Either we really like those Elliot men's cars or our members are suffering from
 "Seniors' Moments"   :)
Perhaps a bit of both!

Car of the Week winner for Appreciation Night is:
1965 Ford Galaxie 500 XL owned by Marlene & Fred O'Boyle
and was selected by Car of the Week plaque sponsor Chuck Willes, Realtor

A big thanks to Tim Horton's for supplying FREE coffee, lemonade and iced capps
not only on our last cruise but the two cruise-ins before that as well!
What a great service for our guests!

A very special thanks to Emmanuel Community Church for allowing us the use of their parking lot every Tuesday night and for setting up a venue to purchase hamburgers and hotdogs.

Our hungry cruisers helped to raise a nice little profit for the church's youth group - awesome!

Add to that the donation from Cruisin' Classics Car Club and one from an anonymous lucky cruiser and they are well on the way to meeting their goal!

A huge thank you to Choko Authentic Apparel in Uxbridge for donating so many fabulous door prizes including the jackets offered in a draw to anyone donating a food item or cash
for the benefit of Operation Scugog.

We collected 2 1/2 truck loads and $678 at our Appreciation Night Cruise(s).
Including our spring event, a total of 4 1/2 truck loads of paper products, food items and $1,078.80 were presented to the local charity during this 2016 cruise-in season.

A SINCERE THANK YOU TO ALL WHO DONATED -
WHAT A GREAT GROUP YOU ARE!

And finally to all our sponsors throughout this cruising season - your support has greatly contributed to the success of this year's event.

Words cannot express how grateful we are for your generousity.

Following are some random pictures taken on September 6, 2016.
We hope you enjoy them :)
